What the AI4CALL Assistant Prompt Tab Is
The Prompt tab is the second configuration tab of the AI4CALL assistant: this is where you decide how the call opens and how the assistant behaves for the rest of the conversation. There are two fields. The First message is the greeting that starts the call. The system prompt holds the instructions the assistant follows after the greeting. You start with the opening, then define the behaviour.
The transparency notice is a reminder to tell callers they are speaking with an artificial intelligence system. The simplest way is to say it in the greeting itself, by introducing yourself as the company's virtual assistant.
First Message: The Greeting That Opens the Call
In the First message field you write the text that opens the call. For the Studio Aurora example, one sentence is enough:
Good morning, I'm the virtual assistant of Studio Aurora. How can I help you?
Example of a first message
The greeting identifies the company and invites the caller to explain their request. With both options on the right turned off, the assistant says it right away and the caller can interrupt. This field holds the opening only: the instructions for the rest of the conversation belong in the system prompt.
Caller Speaks First and First Message Uninterruptible: The Opening Options
The two options next to the field change how the call begins.
- Both turned off (default mode): the assistant says the first message right away and the caller can interrupt it.
- Caller Speaks First enabled: the caller speaks first. The greeting field is replaced by a notice, and the assistant generates its first reply based on what it hears and on the prompt instructions; that reply remains interruptible. With Caller Speaks First enabled, the uninterruptible first message option is disabled.
- First Message Uninterruptible enabled: the assistant speaks first and completes the message without being interrupted. That is exactly why the greeting should stay short.
To have the assistant speak first, turn off Caller Speaks First and review the greeting text. For this example we go back to the default mode and close the First Message section to move on to the system prompt.
System Prompt: Role, Task, Style and Operational Limits
The system prompt holds the instructions that guide the conversation. A useful prompt defines four elements: role, task, reply style and operational limits.
In the example written for Studio Aurora, the assistant helps callers clarify their request: it uses a friendly, professional tone, replies in short sentences, asks one question at a time and asks for clarification when the request is unclear.
Concrete Rules for Difficult Situations
- If information is missing, the assistant says so instead of inventing an answer.
- It does not confirm bookings or transfers without an enabled tool and a successful outcome.
- Before closing, it summarises what it has understood and asks for confirmation.
Instructions Must Match the Actual Configuration
The summary on the right shows the available capabilities. In this example there are no plugins or custom tools, and transfer is disabled. Writing in the prompt that the assistant books or transfers does not enable those functions: the instructions must match the actual configuration.
Template Prompt, Final Checks and Saving the Assistant
The Template Prompt button opens the sample models: at the top you choose the language, and you will find profiles for sales, switchboard, reception and appointments. Every template has to be adapted to the company and to the available tools. Close with Cancel to keep your own text.
Before saving, check that greeting and prompt are consistent: verify the opening mode and read the instructions again. Once the configuration is ready, Save assistant applies the changes. In the video tutorial we entered a demonstration example without saving it.
How to Test Your Prompt After Saving
Once you have saved your configuration, try three cases: a clear request, an incomplete request and a question for which information is missing. Check that the assistant asks one question at a time, says what it does not know and respects the stated limits. The result to verify is the behaviour during the call.
Frequently Asked Questions About the Prompt Tab
What is the difference between the first message and the system prompt?
The first message contains only the call opening, that is the initial greeting. The system prompt holds the instructions for the rest of the conversation: role, task, reply style and operational limits.
What happens when I enable Caller Speaks First?
The caller speaks first and the greeting field is replaced by a notice. The assistant generates its first reply based on what it hears and on the prompt instructions, and that reply remains interruptible. With the option enabled, the uninterruptible first message is disabled.
Does writing 'book' or 'transfer' in the prompt enable those functions?
No. Writing in the prompt that the assistant books or transfers does not enable those functions: you need plugins, custom tools or transfer active in the configuration. The summary on the right shows the capabilities actually available.
